Welcome to Prancing Pony Farm!

Hey there! I’m Kim Crawmer, a Navy wife turned farmer. Our family includes my husband, Steve, our six amazing kids, their spouses, and our fourteen (and counting) adorable grandchildren. Throughout my life, I’ve had a deep passion for animals.

My jobs have included:

  • Professional dog and cat groomer.
  • Working in the veterinary field.
  • Breeding dogs.
  • Breeding horses.
  • Owning a farm.
  • Breeding dairy goats.
  • Owning my own grooming business.
  • Training dogs.

My First Goat…

Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, I was a city kid who dreamed of owning a farm. I spent my summers at my grandparents’ Kentucky homestead, dreaming of the day I would have goats, chickens, and other farm animals of my own.

I started a job at a pet grooming shop when I was 14. One day, a local goat dairy brought in a couple of Nubian bottle baby kids they didn’t want. My boss gave me the buckling, which I named Squaka. My love of goats began that day and has never wavered. I knew that I would someday have a farm and as many goats as I wanted.

For me, breeding goats is a lifelong dream come true.

Little did I know that marrying Steve, a Maryland native and career Navy man, would put my dream on hold for many years. But during that time, we homeschooled our kids, traveled with our horses and pets across the country, and lived in various places like Florida, Maryland, California, Virginia, and even Guam.

Although we owned a small farm in Virginia for a while, we eventually had to let go of that dream when duty took us back to California. But in 2015, after Steve retired from the Navy, we made California our permanent home and finally bought our farm. And that’s when Prancing Pony Farm came to life.

I was fifty when we bought our farm in California. Because it took me so long to achieve my dream of owning a farm and breeding goats, I have a passion for helping others achieve their own goat and farm-related dreams. I know what it is to have to wait years for something you want so badly, and I know how wonderful it is when that dream finally comes true.

Six goats and one dog…

That’s what I started this farm with. Six Nigerian Dwarf goats and one Maremma Sheepdog puppy named Olaf. Then I discovered Mini Nubians and had to have a few of those. Then Olaf needed a partner so Genevieve joined the farm. And the rest is history….
